Prerequisites

SD County YouthBuild must adhere to strict guidelines when considering applicants for admission. Applicants must have the prerequisites listed below.

  • Age: Applicants must be 16-24 years old on the first day of enrollment Education.

  • Status: All individuals who wish to be considered must have formally been dropped by, or dropped out of public high school. (H.S. and GED holders are eligible)

  • Residency: All individuals who wish to be considered must be residents of San Diego County.
Stage 1 - Application

Stage 2 - Interview

Each applicant that meets the minimum prerequisites is invited to an initial interview and orientation. During this interview, San Diego County YouthBuild determines a potential fit between the applicant and the program. Our staff and a few alumni conduct and score the interviews on the basis of applicant motivation.

We will contact each applicant that does not meet the minimum prerequisites with a reason for his/her ineligibility.

Stage 3 - MTT

Mental Toughness Training (MTT). San Diego County YouthBuild invites the highest scoring applicants to return in mid-July for “Mental Toughness Training," an intensive, two-week selection process designed to introduce individuals to the YouthBuild model of learning (and prepare them to step back into the classroom).

Preparation is achieved through a series of workshops, leadership exercises and team building activities. During Mental Toughness Training, students must adhere to a series of rules and guidelines to complete the training.
